Preserving and Promoting Edelweiss Village in Canada and Beyond

Preserving.

Our goal is to preserve the Swiss Edelweiss village for present and future generations to enjoy.

Located in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the village represents a historical treasure unlike anything in the world.

Built in Golden BC in 1911, the six one-of-a-kind Swiss-style chalets weave together a mosaic of rich histories: mountaineering, tourism, architecture, Swiss immigration, Canada’s multiculturalism, and the legacy of the legendary Swiss mountain guides hired by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).

Promoting.

Our focus is fundraising for the preservation and maintenance of the Swiss Edelweiss village—internationally, and more specifically in Canada and Switzerland.

Deriving from the vibrant mountaineering tradition of the Swiss Alps, the certified guides brought their expertise to Western Canada and significantly shaped today's world-famous Canadian mountain culture.

Our aim is to create and promote public awareness about this cross-cultural heritage.

Making it a Reality.

Our vision is to make Edelweiss Village a historic heritage site and a world class tourist destination.

The Swiss chalets provide an opportunity for visitor experiences in which culture, adventure and nature intersect. This may include guests’ access to an educational tour of a chalet in its original state, as well as a first-hand taste of the Swiss guides’ lifestyle by lodging in their former homes and engaging in outdoor adventures—all surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Rocky Mountains.

With the opportunities presented by community engagement and crowdfunding, we can make this exciting vision a reality.

“The love of the mountains is a thing that is very hard to explain.”

— Ed Feuz Jr. (1884-1981), Swiss mountain guide and resident of Edelweiss Village
